How do you name a feeling? “It has a nostalgic, longing sound to me,” is what Kelly said.
The idea to name a pedal after what the sound *felt* like instead of after what the sound *sounded* like had honestly never really occurred to me, but she was right, sounds have feelings associated with them and reverb can be a potent one.
I was always curious if I’d have my own take on a reverb and what that might be like, and I’m extremely happy with where I’ve landed. Starting with familiar decay time, dampening, and mix controls, Regrets adds a few other tricks that not only effect the sound, but also the feeling of the pedal. It can be short, it can be your more standard “room” reverb sound, but it can also be lush, obscure, ambient, textured.
Months later another good friend was playing the prototype and said without prompting, “I don’t know how to say this, but it sounds… nostalgic?”
